The Butternut Jr High girls basketball traveled to Washburn to play an 8th grade game on Friday. They played well, on both ends of the floor, jumping out to a 23-6 halftime lead and cruising to a 38-12 win. Gianna Nahring led all scorers with 19, connecting on a three late in the half to bust things open. Brooklyn Treml added 11 and Bailey Pritzl with 6. Ellie Kolar played great defense and Virginia Augustine controlled the boards. Younger players off the bench got some valuable minutes in both halves, and did not let up on defense while they were in. Cadence Butler had a number of steals off the bench and drew some offensive foul calls. It was a great team effort with lots of intensity.
Butternut improves to 4-1 and will host LCO on Monday, first game at 5:45.
