This Marawood Conference clash features a couple of the top teams in the conference. Athens gets the key road win, 10-6.
In the season opener for both teams, Phillips starts the season with a big Marawood Conference victory.
Owen-Withee routed Winter 85-48 in a WIAA Sectional Semifinal played at Medford. Winter got 14 points from Gunnar Greuel and 12 from C.J. Thompson in the loss. Owen-Withee scored 51 points in the first half en route to the win.
Auburndale used a strong first half to take a 40-20 lead early on, eventually winning 69-42 in the WIAA Tournament regional semifinal over Phillips. Auburndale got 26 points from Evan Scholl to lead all scorers. Phillips was led by J.J. Heikkinen and Lane Abraham each with nine points.
McDonell defeated Phillips 78-46 in a sectional semifinal in the WIAA Tournament. McDonell jumped out to a 41-17 halftime advantage, getting four players into double figures in scoring.
Iola-Scandinavia got 23 points from R.J. Opperman and 16 from Alex Robbins to hold off Chequamegon, which had a game-high 31 points from A.J. Morgan, in the first round of the WIAA Tournament.
Phillips defeated Spencer 65-60 in the first round of the WIAA Tournament behind 23 points from Lane Abraham and 20 from Drew Hauschild, who also had eight rebounds.
Phillips defeated Cameron 79-73 to win the WIAA Regional Final behind 24 points from each of Kacy Eggebrecht and Mataya Eckert and a 21-point, 16-reobund effort from Brooke Eckert.
Hurley defeated Butternut in a WIAA Tournament regional semifinal 58-55. Butternut got 28 points from Jersey Polencheck and 14 points from Caitlynn Bebeau.
Chequamegon defeated Phillips 62-60 behind 23 points each from A.J. Morgan and Cooper Michalski, while Phillips had four players reach double figures in scoring.
