Team USA for Paris Olympics boasts 18 Wisconsin athletes

WISCONSIN- (Civic Media) – When Team USA competes in the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Badger State will be represented.

According to the Team USA website 18 athletes from Wisconsin have qualified to compete

Six of the 18 athletes competing this year are on the Team USA wheelchair basketball team.

Becca Murray from Germantown will compete in wheelchair basketball. This is her fourth Olympics having competed as a Paralympian in 2008, 2012, and 2016. Emily Oberst, who didn’t list a hometown but is from Wisconsin, also competes in wheelchair basketball.

Joining his fellow Paralympians for return games are Nate Hinze of Cedar Grove and Jake Williams of Milwaukee. Hinze competed three times before in 1012, 2016, and 2020. Williams is a return Paralympian too. He competed in the 2016 and 2020 games. John Boie of Milton competed in 2020 and will return this year to compete in wheelchair basketball. 

Talen Jourdan of Deerfield is also on Team USA for wheelchair basketball.

Tyrese Haliburton, an Oshkosh native who plays for the Indiana Pacers is part of the US Men’s Basketball team. 

Neenah native MadeleineMaddie” Wanamaker returns to compete in rowing. She first competed in the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.  Sophia Vitas from Franklin, Lauren O’Connor of Belleville, and Nick Rusher of West Bend are also competing for Team USA in rowing. 

Emily Sisson from Milwaukee is competing in track and field. As is Kenny Bednarek, a returning Olympian, who competed in Tokyo in 2020. 

Margherita Guzzi Vincenti is an Italian-born fencer now living in Hartland. She’ll represent Team USA in fencing.

Payton Jacobson from Elkhorn will compete in Wrestling. Maria LaBorde of Kenosha will compete in judo. Mary Theisen-Lappen of Eau Claire is a weightlifting athlete. And Stephanie Roble of East Troy will take to the water in sailing. 

Some of the competitions have already begun. The Paris Olympic games officially start Friday, July 26th, and run through August 11th.
