The Butternut girls traveled to Mellen for a tough match up.
It was an even grind it out first half as Mellen controlled the tempo and were able to get the ball inside to Nileah Wiley for 12 of her team high 16 points in the first half. And just like the first game the Midgets found themselves in first half foul trouble.
Some adjustments at halftime and the Midgets came out pushing the tempo on both ends to build a double digit lead and then pull away at the end for a 60-40 hard fought win.
Jersey Polencheck led all scorers with 19. She added 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 10 steals. Kendra Pritzl with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Caitlyn Bebeau added 11 points and Izzy Przybylski with 7. Lauren Sales and Kaycie Scherwinski did a nice job in the second half locking down the paint and getting the ball up court to start our transition offense. And once again our bench came through, doing their part when we got in foul trouble.
Butternut improves to 8-3 in conference and 12-4 overall. They are off until next Monday when they travel to Solon Springs. Tuesday host Mercer and then Thursday 2/1 host conference leading South Shore.
