Judith “Judy” Amy Kohn, age 81, of Park Falls, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at
Park Manor Nursing Home. Born on May 12, 1944, in Miami, Florida, she was the beloved
daughter of Myron “Papa Sy” and Shirley “Mimi” (Jones) Sleight. Judy spent her early years in
Mercer, Wisconsin, where she developed a passion for beauty and style, leading her to
graduate from beauty school. She proudly owned and operated her own salon, “Judy’s Hair
Repair,” in Mercer.
An adventurous spirit, Judy balanced her beauty career with traveling and raising her two
children. In 1991, she met her best friend and partner, Francis Kohn, and they married on April
1, 1999, in Park Falls. Judy was known for her hard work, tending bar at various local
establishments, including the Homestead in Fifield and Rich and Kitty’s in Park Falls. Together
with Francis, she also ran Flambeau Cab Service from 2002 to 2009.
Judy cherished socializing, playing pool, camping, and taking road trips with her granddaughter,
Alex. She cherished adventures, frequently exploring the idyllic backroads of the Northwoods
with her husband, Francis, and loved traveling around the Caribbean with her favorite travel
companion, her daughter, Jacci, creating unforgettable memories filled with laughter and joy.
Most importantly, she treasured the moments spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Francis Kohn of Park Falls, and her beloved dog
Bingo.
Her two children, James “Bo” (Cathy) Heinske of Portland, TN, and Jacci (Tracey) Barrow of
Springfield, TN; three stepchildren, Tracy (Ric) Steckling of Neenah, WI, Zack (Christi) Kohn of
Midland, TX, and Amber (Mason) Staggs of Abilene, TX; one granddaughter, Alex (Matt)
Patterson of Park Falls; one adopted granddaughter, Windy (Dennis) Kerkela; eleven step-
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Judy is also survived by her brother, David (Vina)
Sleight of Mercer, WI, sister-in-law Marge Sleight, and many nieces, nephews, and other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bob and Chuck Sleight, and step-grandson
Joseph.
