Butternut traveled to Hurley on Friday for a conference showdown between two teams in the upper half of the conference.  The Midgets and Northstars have hooked up in some good ones the past couple years with each game decided by 3 points or less.  This one would be no different.

To say the Midgets struggled offensively in the first half would be a severe understatement, as they trailed 14-2 with just 5:30 left in the half.  They did not give up, scratching to an 18-10 deficit at half time.  Butternut continued to battle, taking their first lead at 10:42 as Caitlynn BeBeau hit her 3rd of 4 threes.  The teams exchanged baskets from there  BeBeau’s 4th three came with 4:48 to give the Midgets a 33-30 lead, and perhaps the momentum.  But Olivia Degiorgio countered with a three of her own to tie the game again.  The teams would go to OT tied at 35.

In the OT, Gianna Nahring came up with a few steals, and offensive put back and 1-2 from the line.  Lizzie Pritzl with a few defensive rebounds down the stretch and 1-2 from the line in OT to help seal the 39-37 win for the Midgets.

BeBeau finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Nahring 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals.  Brooklynn Treml with 15 rebounds.

Alex Tolemy played tough inside all night to stifle the Midgets inside game, and leading the Northstars with 15 points.

Hurley falls to 4-4 in conference.  Butternut improves to 7-1 in conference and 9-4 overall.  They will host LCO on Monday at 6:30 and travel to Mellen on Thursday.
