Neptune 1969

In November of 1969, I was a student at Neptune Kindergarten. I made friends that I still have today. One vivid memory I have is of the day one of the glass covers from a hanging light fell and landed on the head of a student. It was a scary situation as this young person had several cuts. Our teacher, Mrs. Harper, could not call for help because there was not a phone at Neptune school! Instead, she sent a student to the neighboring farm so that a call for help could be made. It was certainly a different time. Can you imagine a teacher today telling a kindergarten student to walk along a state highway so they can find a phone to call for help? There were no cell phones in 1969 and in some cases no land lines either! There were plenty of glorious AM radios, though. On the way to and from school and in the houses and barns there was plenty of great music. This week on WRCOs’ Those Were the Days, I will be spinning a few of the chart makers from November of 1969. Musical favorites include Suspicious Minds-Elvis (his last number one Top 40 hit), Come Together-Beatles, I Can’t Get Next to You-Temptations, Baby, Its You-Smith, Tracy-Cuff Links, Eli’s Coming-Three Dog Night, Fortunate Son-CCR, Undun-Guess Who, and Evil Woman-Don’t Play Your Games With Me-Crow.

Between six and midnight Saturday night, I will be bringing back the best vinyl of all time. During the first hour of the show, there will special guest dj’s in the studio. They were the generous bidders during last summer’s Walk with Grace Radio auction. They have picked 15 of their most memorable songs from the TWTD era. I know you will enjoy hearing from father and daughter Tony and Neleh of Towne Taxi in Richland Center between six and seven. The request line will be open between eight and midnight for you to call or text and we will be playing trivia whenever the ‘magic cow bell’ rings.
