Daniel James Bucheger, age 73, of Butternut, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday January 21, 2025 at UW Madison Hospital. He was born on December 8, 1951, the son of Robert and Luana (Pichler). After High School he joined the Army as a truck driver and was honorably discharged on June 11, 1970. He attended auto mechanic classes for a short time before working in masonry and concrete. On September 15, 1973, he married Becky Peterson and together they had four children. Later they divorced. Daniel had a love of the outdoors, especially anything to do with the woods, woodworking and a fruitful logging career. In 1988, he became disabled in a logging accident. His passion for woodworking blossomed. He took pride in creating beautifully crafted wood crosses that he passed on to his family members. Daniel was a hardworking man who did the best he could with what he had. He loved his family, his dog Buddy, Harley Davidson, Chevy’s, hunting, fishing, and logging.
He is survived by four children; Robert Lee (DJ) Bucheger, Kristy Lee (Preston) Scheuermann, Josie Lee (Chris) Johnson, Jodie Lee Bucheger, (13)grandchildren and step-grandchildren, (13)great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, (6)siblings; Ronald (Ruth), Richard (Anne), Michael (Terry), Cheryl “Skeeter” Kovarik, Lori (Gordie) Hall, Cindy Larson, sister-in-law Glenda Bucheger, his canine companion Buddy, his former wife and mother of his children Becky Peterson, and by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Gregory, and brothers-in-law Mike Larson and Tony Kovarik.
A Memorial Service will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut on Saturday February 8, 2025 at 11:00am. Deacon Robert Schienebeck will officiate.
Military Honors under the auspices of the Butternut American Legion will follow.
A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
Interment will take place at Saint Cecelia Cemetery in Butternut at a later date.
