Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue late Wednesday night responded to a lithium-Ion battery explosion at a home.
The battery was charging in the living room when it overheated. The resident extinguished the fire. Fire crews determined there was no fire extension. The event caused damaged to a floor and wall. No one was injured.
Fire Department officials say not all batteries and chargers meet the rigorous safety standards established by Underwriters Laboratories.
They recommend:
Only using batteries and chargers that are UL listed. Purchase from reputable manufacturers and retailers.
Avoid mixing components such as a third-party charger with an unverified battery.
Regularly inspect batteries for signs of damage, swelling, or overheating.
Never charge batteries unattended or overnight.
