OSHKOSH, WI- (WISS) – Drinking water might smell a little different and taste a little different in the City of Oshkosh starting next week when the Department of Public Works begins replacing ozone system equipment at the Water Filtration plant.
Oshkosh disinfects drinking water using a combination of ozone and chlorine. During the project, the ozone system will be offline at times, and chlorine will be the primary water treatment method.
The city said in a press release that the level of residual chlorine in the water will be safe to drink, but some residents may notice an increased smell or taste of chlorine in the water.
The first ozone system shutdown is planned to start on Monday, April 7, and is expected to last several weeks. As construction progresses, the ozone system may be offline multiple times.
