Nanette “Mitzi” R. Ernest

age 66, of Glidden, died on Thursday October 1, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth after a

brief battle with an aggressive cancer. She was born on February 2, 1960, in Ashland, WI. The

daughter of Nancy Eickermann. After graduating high school, Mitzi met and married her best

friend, Randy Ernest on June 24, 1978 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Glidden. Together they

raised two sons. Mitzi was a hardworking, organized woman with a heart of gold. She worked

37 years for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring from office administration. She was a devoted

wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed crafts, puzzles, games, and being outdoors. In her

younger years she liked to go snowmobiling and later embraced quieter outdoor activities, such

as fishing, camping, and flower gardening. Most of all, she loved being with her family and

friends. She will always be remembered for her strong, brave, loving, thoughtful, faithful and

witty personality that touched all those around her.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Randy Ernest, two sons; Phillip (Shawn), Jason

(Jessica) Ernest, four grandchildren; Maddie, Zachary, Isabelle, Hank, her siblings; Julie

Lutterman, Greg Griffith, and by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She

was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Eickermann and sister, Michelle Otto.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran

Church in Glidden. Rev. Kenneth Lahners will officiate.

A visitation will be held from 9:30am until the hour of the service, at the church.
