The Phillips volleyball team turned in a strong performance Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to Shell Lake for an invitational tournament and finishing in first place.
The Loggers opened round-robin play with three consecutive victories, defeating Shell Lake, Spooner and Drummond by identical 2-0 scores.
Phillips then faced Grantsburg in its final match of the day, falling 2-1. With Spooner and Grantsburg also in contention, the Loggers won the ensuing tiebreaker to claim the tournament championship.
Spooner finished second, followed by Grantsburg in third, Shell Lake in fourth and Drummond in fifth.
Phillips will return to action Tuesday when the Loggers host Prentice in a Marawood Conference matchup in Marawood. The team then travels to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Thursday.
