Matthew “Matt” Stone, 47, Fifield

Matthew “Matt” C. Stone, age 47, of Fifield, Wisconsin, was peacefully released from his lifelong
health struggles and recent severe physical pain on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Park Manor
Nursing Home in Park Falls. He was born on March 30, 1979, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son
of Charles “Chuck” and Kristine (Ninneman) Stone. Highly intelligent from a young age, his early
life and schooling were in Milwaukee, where he proudly competed in a national spelling bee in
Washington D.C. during elementary school. When Matt was a 13-year-old boy in the 8th grade,
his family moved to Fifield to care for his maternal grandfather, Don Ninneman, and to take over
Don’s half of the seasonal family business, D&W Ring and Wire, which Don had originally co-
founded with his best friend, Walt.
Matt’s parents lovingly cared for him throughout his entire life. Matt shared an exceptionally
close, deep bond with his mother, Kristine. Together, they took countless road trips for shopping,
running errands, and traveling to his dialysis appointments. Kristine also served as his
dedicated caregiver, physically changing his wound dressings for the last few years of his life
with fierce love and devotion. Matt also struggled with health problems since birth, but he never
allowed it to hold him back when it came to helping his family, proudly working alongside his
parents at D&W Ring and Wire seasonally for over twenty years.
He and his dad, Chuck, loved visiting Grandma Bernice Stone at her Lower Island “lake house.”
They most looked forward to her famous pot roast and occasional family trips to the
casino—though Grandma usually had to pry their butts off the couch away from Matt browsing
the internet and his dad watching dusty western movies before getting them to help with any
yard work. During these lake visits, Matt also spent numerous evenings surrounded by family,
sharing laughs around campfires at the neighboring homes of his beloved cousin Linda Denz
and his godfather Greg.
Matt shared a deep, lifelong passion for DC comics and Marvel movies with his nephew, Colt,
and his late father, Charles “Chuck” (Grandpa Stone). Provided there was a fridge full of
Mountain Dew, endless snacks, countless DVD rentals from Family Video, and the occasional
carton of smokes, Matt could be influenced to help watch Colt for weeks at a time during school
breaks, creating lifelong memories over shared spring breaks filled with laughs, macaroni and
cheese, and ramen noodles.
It was during the family’s move to Fifield that Matt met his “brother from another mother,” Aaron
Slayton, sparking a lifelong brotherhood filled with countless fun and unforgettable memories.
Matt’s parents treated Aaron like an additional child of their own. For several years, the Stone
family was also joined at the lake house for two unforgettable weeks every summer by Chuck’s
best friend, Tod Riebow, and his family, creating a deeply special bond between Matt and the
Riebows.
Matt had a great sense of humor and was famously known for his inappropriate jokes, sarcasm,
and quick wit. He and his sister, Becky, would spend hours at a time on the phone making fun of
each other and trading memes and other hilarious oddities online. Matt loved gaming, watching
movies, and all types of music, with a special fondness for the unique music “mashups” he
would discover on YouTube. He loved pointing out the obvious to family and friends with a sharp
“No shit, Sherlock!” or “No kidding, Captain Obvious.” Though he could be a wonderfully
stubborn patient during his illness, he always kept his caregivers laughing. He was also an
excellent listener and had a great love for the several family pet cats he shared his life with
through the years.

He is survived by his mother, Kristine Stone of Fifield; his sister, Becky Stone of Green Bay; his
nephew, Colton Sekey of Green Bay; his godparents, Greg (Barb) Zaharias of Mountain and
Cindy (Tim) Zydzik of Oak Creek; his “brother from another mother,” Aaron (Stephanie) Slayton
of Fifield; his close cousin, Linda (Joe) Denz of Lower Island Lake; his father’s aunt, Connie
(Joe) Stepe; his father’s uncle, Jerome (Pat) Galaszewski; the Riebow family, including Patty,
Kyle, and Tiffany; and by many cousins and friends. He was reunited in peace with his father,
Charles “Chuck” Stone; his grandparents, including his beloved grandfather, Don Ninneman,
and grandmother, Bernice Stone; and his father’s best friend, Tod Riebow.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Aaron and his family for their unwavering presence
and support for Matt and the entire family, standing faithfully by their side especially during the
final hours of his life. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to the staffs of Park Manor Nursing
Home and Moments Hospice for their compassionate care, their patience with his stubborn
days, and for always sharing a laugh with Matt.
A celebration of life including a memorial service will be held in Fifield in late September or early
October of this year, with details to be announced.
