Vernon Otto Ernest, age 87, passed away on June 6, 2026 at MMC-Minocqua.
Vernon was born on June 27, 1938, in Shanagolden to Otto and Isabella (Rein) Ernest. He grew
up with a strong work ethic and an independent spirit that remained with him throughout his life.
Over the years, Vernon worked in concrete construction, owning his own business named VEC
Concrete and was known as a true jack-of-all-trades. Never one to sit still, he pursued many
interests and accomplishments, including earning his pilot’s license and owning several
airplanes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with his hands, and tackling just about any
project that came his way.
Those who knew Vernon understood that he had a strong personality and spoke his mind.
Beneath that rugged exterior, however, was a devoted father who cared deeply for his family
and wanted nothing more than to see his sons succeed in life.
Vernon is survived by his sons, Michael Ernest, William “Bill” Ernest; his grandchildren; siblings
Ilene, Arnie, and Randy (Mitzi), Kathy (Dana); along with nieces, nephews, and many other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Isabella Ernest, and his brothers, Clifford,
Kenneth, and Roger Ernest.
Vernon will be remembered for his determination, self-reliance, love of the outdoors, and the
lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
His cremated remains will be scattered at a later date.
