Ronald “Ron” J. Ernst age 90, of Park Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday May 7, 2025 at Waterford Assisted Living.  He was born on November 19, 1934 in Park Falls, the son of Joseph and Annarose (Treml) Ernst.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country for 3 years, including overseas in Alaska before it became a state.   When he returned home, he met and married Joan Smith on August 22, 1959 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  He attended college at UW Superior where he studied architect design.  After his schooling, he worked for GM in Detroit before moving back to Park Falls and working for John Peterson Lumber Company.  On April 1, 1971, Ron and Joan purchased the lumber company in Fifield that would become the well-known and respected, Ron Ernst Lumber Inc.

Ron was a hardworking man who was known by many for his compassion, generosity, and integrity.  He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, wise businessman, and faithful Catholic.  He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, Park Falls American Legion Post, The Dukes of Musky Land Drum and Bugle Corp, Happy Dancers Polka Club, as well as the Sno-Gypsies and Lost Patrol Snowmobile Clubs.  Ron enjoyed woodworking, snowmobiling, polka dancing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed watching the games. Ron and Joan were even in attendance at the famous Green Bay Packer Ice Bowl.

He is survived by his children; Brian (Krissy) Ernst of Phillips, Rick (Carole) Ernst of Park Falls, Paula (Tom) Neberman of La Crosse, (8) grandchildren, (8) great-grandchildren, his best friend Sally Meeks, and by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, and sister Judy (Jerry) Krause. 

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Park Falls.  Fr. Shaji Pazukkathara will officiate, assisted by Deacon Chet Ball.

Interment and military honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion Post 182 will follow at Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 9:30a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
