Roger Samuel (age 89) of Phillips, WI passed into the arms of Jesus on March 30, 2025 after alengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Phillips, WI on April 21, 1935. Roger was a devoted husband to Toni
(Antoinette), his wife of 69 years, and a loving father to Bruce, Lynette, Douglas and
Michael. He was also the proud Papa to 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Roger began the early years of his career as a Printer for the Phillips Bee before joining
a branch of the Phillips Bank in Catawba. From there he went on to work in other banks
before opening the first and only bank in Mercer, WI. He continued his long career in
banking by becoming a bank examiner for the State of Wisconsin from 1973 until his
retirement.
Roger was also a proud military veteran, having served 29 years in both the Army
Reserves & Air National Guard.
In his free time, Roger enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. He always found a
way to meet & strike up a conversation with “new friends” along the way.
Roger was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He enjoyed helping his childrenand grandchildren with various projects and teaching them the tips & tricks he hadlearned. He volunteered for several years with Habitat for Humanity as well.
In the early years of their marriage, Roger & Toni were avid square dancers and were
regulars at dances around the Phillips area.
Roger is survived by Toni (Antoinette) his beloved wife of 69 years, his son Bruce
(Laurie), daughter Lynette Schumann (Michael), son Michael (Amy), daughter-in-lawLinda, grandchildren Nicole Malik (Jamil), Steven Samuel (Stephanie), Danielle Schuh
(Matt), Bryan Samuel (Adrienne), Joseph Samuel, Mark Samuel (Kristen), Allison
Samuel, Andrew Samuel (Lyndsay), Adam Samuel and great-grandchildren Finley,
Oliver & Wyatt Samuel, Vivien & Eleanor Malik, Brantley & Jaxson Schuh and Clark
Samuel.
Roger is also survived by his sister Connie Friedrich and brother Martin Samuel
(Jennifer).
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Gladys, and his son Douglas.
Celebration of Life service to be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Phillips, WI with visitation from 10:00 till time of service.
