The Butternut girls basketball team hosted Washburn on Monday Butternut was battling the flu bug and played with just 6 players.

It was an offensive struggle for both teams in the first half.  Butternut had a lapse in the last 50 seconds of the half, when Washburn to score 5 quick points capped off by Maddie Ludwig’s three at the buzzer as the Guards then pulled out to a 20-11 lead.

The Midgets continued to struggle offensively and the Guards dominated the boards, building a 42-20 lead.  Butternut did not go away quietly, staging a rally to close the gap to 5, but they could get no closer.  When 2 players fouled out, Butternut finished with 4 players on the court and Washburn held on for a 54-48 win.

Gianna Nahring led the Midgets with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Kendra Pritzl added 13, Caitlynn Bebeau 9 and Isabelle Przybylski 7.

Maddie Ludwig led Washburn with 28.

Butternut falls to (9-7, 12-10) and will host Bayfield on Thursday at 6:30 for Parent’s night.  They wrap up the regular season at home vs Drummond on 2/20.
