The Butternut Girls basketball team hosted LCO for their home opener. Early on it looked like another grind it out type game. The Midgets played hard and the defense held them in it while the offense struggled for most of the first half. Butternut found themselves leading 18-14 at halftime.
Starting the second half, Butternut turned up the defensive pressure and got a couple transition baskets, then some shots started to fall. Four girls combined to knock down 6 three pointers on the night as the Midgets scored inside and out. Butternut held LCO to 4 second half points and ran away with a 42-18 win.
Kendra Pritzl led all scorers with 15 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds. Gianna Nahring added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Caitlynn Bebeau had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Izzy Przybylski chipped in with 5 points while Ellie Kolar had 4 and Lizzie Pritzl 2.
Butternut improves to (2-0, 2-1) and will travel to Mellen for a tough conference matchup on Friday at 7:15 as part of a DH with the boys.
