The Butternut girls opened their conference season at Hurley on Friday. The Midgets lost 3 games last year (to Hurley) by a total of 6 points, and this one would prove to be another close battle.
Both teams played aggressive defense, causing both offenses to really struggle.
Butternut had a mini run to end the half with an 18-15 lead. Then they failed to put the ball in the basket the first 8 minutes of the second half as Hurley pushed out to a 27-18 lead. The Midgets turned the tables as they held Hurley scoreless the last 10 minutes of the game, chipping away at the lead before Lizzie Pritzl hit a free throw to tie the game and Gianna Nahring (hit a free throw) to take the lead as Butternut held on for a 28-27 grind it out win. Nahring led the Midgets with 13pts, 8 rebounds and 10 steals. Kendra Pritzl with 8pts and 10 rebounds.
Butternut (1-0,1-1) host LCO on Tuesday.
