The energy level and excitement was high as the kids prepared to race under portable light standards and tight corners marked with Christmas lights to negotiate the dark.  For high school runners, this is a cross country version of Friday Night Lights.

It turned out to be an especially special night for the Phillips cross country team.

Both the Phillips boys and girls cross country teams had taken down the number one ranked teams in Division 3.  The Girls beat #1 ranked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption by 4 (70-74), while the boys beat #1 ranked Cedar Grove-Belgium by 22 (78-100).

Long time cross country fans have been asked, and none can remember a meet where one school came in and knocked off both the girls and boys top ranked teams on the same day.  A very special accomplishment for the Phillips Cross Country program.
