Antoinette “Tony” M. Tenney, 92, formerly of Phillips, passed away
on Monday, September 28, 2015, at Our House in Chippewa Falls,
Wisconsin. She was born on May 29, 1923, to Paul and Johanna (Yurik)
Gurka in Phillips. She spent much time on the “farm” as life allowed,
and Summers were her favorite time of the year. She married William
“Bill” Tenney on January 6, 1944, in Edmore, MI. they moved around
while Bill served in the Marines, living in both California and North
Carolina. She always enjoyed coming back home and would take her family
home to enjoy their grandmother and uncle. Tony was an avid treasure
hunter and would find four leaf clovers and press them between pages of
books to save them. She would also pick mushrooms and wild berries in
the Fall and would make homemade jelly out of the berries. Always a
helper to family and friends, she enjoyed caring for people and animals,
she enjoyed telling stories, volunteering, sewing quilts, bread and
cookie baking, and making wreaths.
She is survived by seven children, Pat (Jim) Moss, Eleva, WI,
Ginger (Jim) Harings, Chippewa Falls, WI, Bill (Sally), Eau Claire, WI,
Kathy Cliff, Eau Claire, WI, John (Debbie), Highlands Ranch, CO, Suzie
(Jeff) Covil, Eau Claire, and Bob, Eau Claire, WI; by 18 grandchildren;
by great grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews. She is preceded in
death by her husband, William “Bill”; by one son, Michael; and by
siblings Anne Miller, Cecila Polder, Andrew Gurka; and by grandchildren
Tyler Thorson, Holly Harings, and Richard Krueger.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November
18, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father
Gerald Hagen officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday
from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
