Alice E. Wanish, 89, longtime Kennan resident died on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Cedar Creek Manor in Kronenwetter, Wi., under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice and her family.
She was born on January 12, 1929, in Kennan, the daughter of John and Sena (Palamar)
Rafko. She attended grade school in Kennan then attended and graduated from Phillips High School, Class of 1946.
She was married to Thomas Wanish on September 25, 1946, in Catawba. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2002.
She and her husband Tom owned and operated a dairy farm in Kennan for many years prior to their retirement.
She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Catawba and the Women’s Bowling league in Phillips for many years.
In her free time she enjoyed playing softball, bowling, was very competitive playing cards especially smear, baking, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her 5 children: Ron (Carole) Choctaw, Ok., Terry (Shan) and Roger, all of Phillips, Tim (Mary Ellen) Rhinelander, Laurelie (Rene’) Gorski, Wausau, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister: Anne VanDeVoort, Milwaukee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Tom, by 3 brothers Mike, Paul and John Rafko, by 1 infant brother Nick, and by 1 sister Mary Wanish
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Catawba, with Pastor Sara Brown officiating. Inurnment will be in the Kennan Cemetery, Kennan.
Friends may call from 10:00 A.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at the church until the time of the service.
